Rotunda souvenirs [realia], circa 1890-1920.

Rotunda souvenirs formerly on display include a toothbrush from the 1890s unearthed during the 1970s restoration [broken in half]; a piece of metal from the Rotunda roof, painted over with "Ruins of U. Va." by a Miss Shuey and acquired by E. I. Carruthers about 1918; an unidentified pocket knife stamped "Glauberg," with a piece of the cover detached, also presumably from the Rotunda ruins; a portion of a [marble?] rosette, presumably from one of the Rotunda columns; a decorative piece of leaf shaped metal; a medal from the Comité Français du Bicentenaire de L'Indépendance des États-Unis , cast by Arthus-Bertrand, Paris and depicting eight Revolutionary War heroes: Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, John Paul Jones, Lafayette, d'Estaing, deGrasse and Rochambeau; and five photographs, 1920, taken at the 25th anniversary re-enactment of the burning of the Rotunda. With these are several identifying labels from the display of some of these items in the Rotunda.

11 items.
